The Institut Polytechnique Panafricain (IPP) in Dakar, in cooperation with our firm, organised a workshop 'Relais de l'Espadon' on the Goree Island on 22-23-24 June.
Île de Gorée, located a 2 kilometers at sea from main harbour of Dakar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978 because of its important role in the Atlantic Slave trade in the 18th century.
Workshop focused on studying the block with historic military hospital and on surveying the governor's mansion, most relevant building in the central square of Goree, currently fell into disarray and squatted.
The purpose is to teach students how to deal with historic building being part of a cultural landscape.
During this experience students learned fundamentals of historical building survey and how to analyse the existing conditions of a costruciton.
